For my final project in my Illustration course, I had the freedom to create illustrations with any medium of choice. We were encouraged to do something that interests us that will also be substantial enough to take the rest of the semester. Since I had no guidelines, I found it difficult to think of an idea that would challenge me, but I would also enjoy creating. I have wanted to create portraits of my beloved pets for a long time, so I decided this would be an excellent opportunity to get started. I knew that I would have fun making these portraits, but that I needed to make it challenging as well.
To make it challenging, I decided to paint the portraits on the iPad app, Procreate. This program is new to me, so I prepared by watching many tutorials and practicing different brushes. I also decided to demonstrate each of my pet's different personalities using unique colors and textures. I was surprised to discover that using colors different from their actual coloring was the most challenging. I used the trial-and-error method to create highlights and shadows and choose colors that complement each other.
Overall, these fun portraits display how unique my pets are but also how well they fit together. Choosing this illustration style greatly improved my skills in creating texture using brushes and creating shadows and highlights using Procreate.
