The most challenging semester for most Digital Communications majors at Lebanon Valley College is the spring of their sophomore year when they take portfolio defense. Portfolio defense is where we have to completely code our portfolio websites from scratch using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery. We must show proficiency in each of the six concentrations and how we have mastered one of them, declaring our chosen concentration. Lastly, we present our portfolios to our peers, professors, and alumni, while answering many questions to defend our choices when creating our portfolios.
This project was by far the most challenging and stressful project I have ever done, and I had the challenges of completing my portfolio from home due to COVID-19, as well as doing the presentation and defense over Zoom. Although this website was difficult to code and create, the reward of designing my own website outweighs any stress that I felt throughout the semester. I passed my defense without any revisions, and I am extremely proud of my work. I used Brackets to code it and included an example of my code below.
Without much coding experience, navigating through the different languages taught me new ways to solve problems and keep pushing forward, even when it seems nothing is working. I challenged myself by including a parallax image, animated progress bars, and making the site responsive.
